12. Jess Park (football)
As England debuts go, Park’s went about as well as anybody could imagine as she scored within 79 seconds of coming on as a substitute in the Lionesses’ 4-0 win over Japan in November. The 21-year-old Everton winger, who is on loan from Manchester City, is a wild-card contender for the 2023 World Cup squad.
13. Caroline Dubois (boxing)
With an unblemished five-fight record after turning professional this year, Dubois, 21, has the power, speed and movement to become a household name. One of nine children – her older brother Daniel is a rising star in the heavyweight division – the southpaw lightweight has the ring sobriquet “Sweet Caroline”.
14. Lilly Pinchin (racing)
When Rachael Blackmore was boldly going where no woman had gone before by winning the 2021 Grand National, Pinchin watched the race from a hospital bed, having broken her back in a fall at Chepstow. A year-and-a-half on, her career as a conditional jump jockey is gaining traction with a couple of decent televised winners at the end of 2022.
15. Jessica Gadirova (gymnastics)
There is a big year ahead for the new face of British gymnastics. Gadirova became a world champion for the first time in 2022, winning floor gold in Liverpool to add to back-to-back European titles in that discipline. Now she will be looking to successfully defend that title at the World Championships in Antwerp in October, when she turns 19.
16. Phoebe Litchfield (cricket)
Australia’s selectors have had the talented teenager on their radar for a while and she made her international Twenty20 debut this month against India. A left-handed batter, who was the top scorer for Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League with 280 runs, she could be deployed in the Ashes next summer.
17. Morgan Newberry (cycling)
A graduate of Dame Sarah Storey’s cycling academy for female riders and now a member of her Storey Racing team, Newberry has drawn comparisons with the Paralympic icon and even rides in the same classification as her mentor. Following a breakthrough year internationally, the 23-year-old will be aiming to make it on to the podium at the World Championships both on the road and track.
18. Jamie Chadwick (motorsport)
Not a new name, admittedly, but taking on a new challenge for 2023. Chadwick, fresh from winning her third straight W Series title, has signed for Andretti in Indy NXT and will be plying her trade on the other side of the Atlantic next year. The 24-year-old, who will become the first woman in 13 years to compete full-time in the American racing series, will need to impress in IndyCar’s main support series to secure a good seat in F3 or F2. Big pressure.
