Essendon supporters have received a $7 general admission ticket offer via text message today ahead of tonight’s home game at the MCG.

The $7 is in honour of Zach Merrett’s 250th game as he wears number seven and it mirrors a St Kilda membership offer earlier in the week after Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera’s decision to re-sign for two more years.

It could be a sign that the game hasn’t had much interest from punters but the proof will be in how many fans are in their seats at game time.

Essendon have offered members a bunch of potential prizes including food vouchers tonight as it is their thank you members game.

From Essendon media:
Zach Merrett, the club’s 41st skipper will celebrate his 250th game under Thursday night lights at the ’G.

Merrett has become the kind of player that an entire generation of young Bomber fans will inevitably point to as their footy hero, he has remained a constant source of inspiration for the faithful – in the space of 12 seasons, he’s grown from a crafty half-forward into a truly elite midfielder and one of the competition’s most respected captains.

By the age of just 20, Merrett had already captained his side in a game (becoming the third youngest gameday skipper in Essendon history), earned best clubman honours and become the youngest Crichton Medal winner in more than 30 years.

With an All-Australian blazer added to his CV just a year later, Merrett has cemented himself as one of the standout young players in the competition, and somehow it still feels like the best is yet to come.
