Millwall ended QPR’s unbeaten run as first-half goals from Femi Azeez and Mihailo Ivanovic earned them a 2-1 win at Loftus Road. Azeez put the Lions ahead after 36 minutes and QPR, who had not lost in six matches, faced an uphill task once Ivanovic doubled Millwall’s lead in first-half stoppage time. Rumarn Burrell pulled one back for the hosts in the 85th minute, but they were unable to find an equaliser.
“I don’t think we played particularly well, if I’m being honest,” said Alex Neil, Millwall’s manager. “What we did have is that we carried a threat, particularly in the first half.”
Stan Mills scored his first goal of the season as Oxford earned their second Championship win with a 1-0 victory over Derby at the Kassam Stadium. Only a string of saves from Jacob Widell Zetterström prevented the Rams from falling to a much heavier defeat. Mills struck in the 24th minute when he ran on to Brian De Keersmaecker’s fine pass and finished with a clinical shot low past Zetterström’s left hand.
Southampton failed to win at home for the fourth match in a row as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Swansea. Léo Scienza and Caspar Jander struck a post, with Jander’s attempt in front of an open goal, as Saints had 21 shots. Will Still, Southampton’s manager said: “I can’t believe we haven’t won that. I don’t think a team can play any better and not score a goal. I don’t know what karma or bad luck there is. I don’t know if I’ve squashed a cat.”
On Friday night, Morgan Whittaker scored his first Middlesbrough goal in an action-packed 2-1 win over Ipswich.
