Another chapter of the storied Kolkata Derby will be written on Sunday as arch-rivals East Bengal FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant lock horns in the final of the Durand Cup 2026. The summit clash will be played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, popularly known as the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
Both teams rank among the most successful sides in Durand Cup history. Mohun Bagan hold the record with 17 titles, one ahead of East Bengal’s 16.
The Mariners topped Group A with a perfect record, winning all three of their matches to accumulate nine points. The Red and Gold Brigade advanced from the same group as the best-ranked second-placed team, finishing with six points. Then, Mohun Bagan edged past Jamshedpur FC 9-8 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the quarterfinals, before ending NorthEast United’s title defence with a 4-3 shootout win following a goalless semifinal.
Meanwhile, reigning Indian Super League champions East Bengal beat Indian Army 1-0 in the quarterfinal before edging Delhi SC 5-3 on penalties after a goalless first semifinal.
This will be the second Kolkata Derby of this year’s Durand Cup. Mohun Bagan edged the tournament’s opening match 1-0.
