What are India’s lowest Test scores at home?

India suffered the ignominy of recording their lowest Test team total during their last tour to Australia during the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

India were bowled out for a lowly 36, their second sub-50 score in all Tests, in Adelaide before the team made a resounding comeback to claim the series 2-1 in Brisbane.

India have had a poor travelling record in the past, with their next-five lowest Test scores all coming in overseas conditions between 1948 and 1996.

Lowest at home

As another Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour is looming, India’s final lap of preparations were off to a rocky start when they were subjected to a quick top-order collapse against New Zealand in the first Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 17, 2024.

With rain wiping out Day 1, India opted to bat first on the second day before Rohit Sharma’s side slid down to 34 for six in only 23.5 overs against the Kiwi pacers.

Festive offer

India recorded their lowest Test total at home as the Kiwis bundled them out for 46 in only 31.2 overs.

India’s lowest Test total at home, however, came in 1987 when the West Indies shot them out for 75 in Delhi with seamer Patrick Patterson claiming a five-wicket haul. India suffered a similar fate when Dale Steyn (5/23) ripped through a stacked batting order 19 years later in Ahmedabad in 2008, bundling them for 76.
