Delhi Capitals unveil Yuvraj as assistant and batting coach
Last week, Capitals had unveiled Ganguly as their head coach. He took over from Hemang Badani, with the change is in line with the arrangement reached between DC’s co-owners – GMR Sports India Pvt Ltd and Jindal South West (JSW) Sports – after IPL 2024, which is that each owner will control franchise operations in alternating two-year cycles.

As for Yuvraj, this will be his first formal coaching role. “I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals,” Yuvraj said in a statement. “I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dada [Sourav Ganguly], this time as coaches. Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad. I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting journey for me, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success.”

Parth Jindal, the co-owner and chairman of Capitals, welcomed Yuvraj into their set-up. “Yuvi is one of Indian cricket’s greatest match-winners and someone who has played a pivotal role in mentoring many of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket today,” Jindal said. “His experience, winning mindset, and ability to connect with players will be invaluable to our squad.”

In the past few years, Yuvraj has been credited by several Indian players, including Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh, for playing a key role in their success as batters.

Yuvraj has also played 14 games for Capitals in 2015, scoring 248 runs to go with a wicket after he had been bought for INR 16 crore ahead of the season. He was the most expensive player in the IPL at the time.

In all, Yuvraj played 132 IPL games, scoring 2750 runs to go with 36 wickets. He retired from all forms of cricket in 2019.
