Thakur sustained the injury to his right middle finger while training before the opening round. It turned out to be a fracture and the initial update was that he was going to miss at least the first two rounds.
The Mumbai camp was hoping at the time that Thakur would recover for the third game but he isn’t match fit yet. He has been training with the Mumbai squad and was also present at a Major League Baseball event in Mumbai on Saturday evening with Suryakumar Yadav.
While he recovers, Thakur will also do commentary for some of the T20Is India are currently playing in New Zealand.
Thakur was last in action in the Duleep Trophy quarter-final for West Zone against North Zone in late August. In that game, the out-of-favour India allrounder picked up one wicket in 14 overs of bowling and scored 10 runs in his only hit (he was unbeaten on 0 without facing a ball in the second innings) as North Zone won by 54 runs.
Mumbai are currently top of Elite Group D with 14 points.
