Carlos Alcaraz joins Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal on elite list after beating Taylor Fritz to reach the Wimbledon final

Carlos Alcaraz kept his winning streak alive after beating Taylor Fritz to reach the Wimbledon final.

The 22-year-old stunned the tennis world in 2023, when he dethroned Novak Djokovic in five sets to win his first title at SW19 at the age of 20.

Now there is little surprise at what the Spaniard is able to do on the hallowed turf and he is now into his third successive final at the All-England Club.

Now Carlos Alcaraz is one match away from writing more tennis history and cementing his legacy as an icon in the sport.

Carlos Alcaraz has now reached consecutive Wimbledon and French Open finals

In Friday’s semi-finals Alcaraz faced Taylor Fritz, who was playing in the last four at Wimbledon for the first time.

Alcaraz took the opening set before the American snatched the second set 7-5 following a loose game from the second seed.

Alcaraz raised his level and comfortably took set three, and both players were very strong on serve heading throughout the deciding set.

Set four between Alcaraz and Fritz was decided by a tiebreak and the 27-year-old held two set points.

But Alcaraz raised his game and produced a delicate drop shot followed by an excellent forehand pass to save them, before a backhand found the line and Fritz hit the return long, sealing the win for Alcaraz.

The five-time Grand Slam champion is now just the third player after Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal to reach successive finals at both Wimbledon and the French Open.

Carlos Alcaraz does not want to think about the Wimbledon final just yet

Alcaraz was thrilled to see off the challenge from Fritz and reach his third successive Wimbledon final.

He won 88% of his first serve points and that was the foundation of his performance, which prevented Fritz from becoming the first American man to reach a Wimbledon final since 2009.

Alcaraz was thrilled to reach Sunday’s final, where he will face either Djokovic or world number Jannik Sinner. When asked for his thoughts on the final and who he could play, Alcaraz was in no mood to think about that just yet.

“Right now I don’t want to think about Sunday to be honest. I just want to enjoy this moment,” Alcaraz said. “Enjoy that I qualified for another final, the third in a row here in Wimbledon, that is something that is really difficult.

“This is one of the most exciting match ups we have on tour right now, Djokovic against Jannik, so as a huge fan of tennis I am going to try and see it and watch as much as I can. I have to do a lot of things, press and whatever, but I will try and find the time to enjoy that match.”
