AFL LIVE: Dreamtime game becomes Bombers’ nightmare as Parish booed; Freo storm to a perfect 10

Essendon coach Brad Scott cast a solemn figure as he spoke to media following the loss to Richmond, sending the injury-hit Dons to the bottom of the ladder and to the No.1 pick in the upcoming mid-season draft (a player who may go close to heading straight into the selection mix).

“It’s extremely disappointing not to get it done and there are things you think about that are positives, but it’s hard to talk about positives right now with the position we are in,” Scott said.

“We are in a situation that we don’t want to be in, and we need to keep on fighting. I know at the end of the day that no one cares but given the circumstances, the players fought to the end and gave themselves a chance but fell just short.”

Scott said Jye Caldwell played out the match despite being hurt as the medical advice was that he couldn’t make his injury worse, while forward Archer May has been sent to hospital with rib issues after kicking three goals.
