AFL trade period LIVE updates: Geelong land a big-name assistant coach; Pies open to De Goey looking elsewhere

There is hope that Tuesday will be more productive on the trade front than Monday, when two low-profile deals and a pick swap were all that went through.

But we all know that most of the remaining deals will occur on deadline day, to feed the AFL commercial machine.

On Wednesday, clubs won’t be able to lodge trades until 2pm – and there usually are a few immediately after the moratorium ends.

However, there will undoubtedly be several deals still being thrashed out in the final half hour before the 7.30pm (AEDT) deadline.

Trades that went down to the wire across the years include Josh Dunkley’s move to the Brisbane Lions and Tom Mitchell to Collingwood, while Tom Barrass (Hawthorn), Bailey Smith (Geelong) and Jake Stringer (GWS) were all very late deals last year.

This year’s headline acts are Christian Petracca, Charlie Curnow and Clayton Oliver, while contracted Essendon captain Zach Merrett’s wish to play for Hawthorn remains in serious jeopardy as the Hawks desperately try to change the Bombers’ minds.
