It has been a truly great year, a competitive season with a top eight as tight as it has ever been, close finishes, brilliant footy and some of the best players of our generation. The footy and the work of our clubs, is the reason that for only the third time ever, more than 7 million fans went to games this year.
It’s why there are more than 1.3 million members of our AFL clubs. No other sport in this country comes close. Our reach and our place in the daily conversation has never been bigger.
Footy dictates our weekends, and if we’re honest, it’s our lives, and we love it. We love the nine games on the weekend. We love The Bounce on Sunday night. And we especially love those Monday night footy shows and the Tuesday ones too. And don’t forget the Midweek tackle.
And we all love the Front Bar on a Wednesday and then Thursday comes around, and we do it all again. We love the passion, the drama, the debate. We love that moving two games because of a cyclone can be almost a bigger deal as whether a commentator should be allowed in the team’s change rooms.
