Jannik Sinner has just made a really bold move on the eve of Wimbledon’s commencement.
The Italian, who heads into yet another Grand Slam as the top seed, is being tipped to once again challenge Carlos Alcaraz for the ultimate crown.
Coming off the back of that damaging but legendary French Open final, in which he squandered three championship points before the title slipped away from him, few would begrudge the 23-year-old for being downbeat.
However, he seems anything but whilst bouncing around the All-England Club, seemingly ready for action.
Beneath the surface, though, it seems trouble has been brewing. This has therefore led to the departure of Marco Panichi and Ulises Badio, his trainer and physiotherapist respectively, leaving his coaching team.
Andy Roddick reacts to Jannik Sinner decision before Wimbledon
Combing through the draw on his Served with Andy Roddick podcast, he could not mention Jannik Sinner’s route to the final without first addressing the breaking news from earlier in the week.
Left stumped by the timing, Roddick admitted: ‘That’s a really weird thing to do. Yeah, yeah I mean on the eve of Wimbledon you wouldn’t… It had to be something.
‘I don’t know anything, so I have no… But my guess would be that it has to be something off-court, whether it’s financial, whether it’s an argument, whether it’s this doesn’t feel like what you would do when you’re trying to win your first Wimbledon.
‘But this also sounds like it could be something that we will never know the answer to, at least publicly.’
Jannik Sinner splits with two members of his coaching team
As Roddick theorises, something must have gone on off the court to prompt such a bold decision to be made just hours after the Wimbledon draw was made.
No statement has been made by the staff in question or Sinner, leaving the decision open to interpretation from those online.

He hired the pair back in September 2024, brought in to replace the outgoing Umberto Ferrara and Giacomo Naldi following his positive drug test.
Sinner has since served his three-month suspension, returned and reached the French Open final.
Alas, he will now seek a replacement for this latest departure; an issue he will likely seek to solve after Wimbledon.
