ATP player on an eight-match winning streak decides to withdraw from the Cincinnati Open

Following a spate of withdrawals from the Canadian Open, tennis fans will be hoping for a stronger field at the next ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

Various high-profile names withdrew from the Canadian Open before the tournament’s start, including Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner.

While there has been understandable criticism of the ATP Tour schedule, it was certainly a disappointment to see four of the six highest ranked ATP players withdraw from the Masters 1000 event in Canada.

Jack Draper is the only significant name to have withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open so far, due to a left arm injury.

However, one player who is on an eight-match win streak, has withdrawn from the American tournament.

Alexander Bublik pulls out of Cincinnati

Alexander Bublik has been in red-hot form since his shock loss to Jaume Munar in the first round of Wimbledon.

In fact, the Kazakh star was motoring even before Wimbledon. Bublik reached the quarter-finals of the French Open and defeated Jannik Sinner on his way to the Halle Open title.

Following his Wimbledon blip, Bublik has cemented himself as a force on the ATP Tour and as a particularly prolific clay-court player.

In back-to-back weeks, Bublik has secured his second and third title of the year.

At the Gstaad Open in Switzerland, the Kazakh player only dropped one set in four matches to claim the title. One week later, he was holding the Kitzbuhel Open trophy and failing to drop a single set at the entire tournament.

However, the 28-year-old, who has won more ATP titles than Jannik Sinner in 2025, has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open in August. The reason for this withdrawal is yet to be reported.

Bublik also withdrew from the Canadian Open, which is taking place in Toronto this week.

Bublik’s eight-match win streak

Some familiar names headline Alexander Bublik’s list of defeated opponents in the last month.

Bublik twice played compatriot Alexander Shevchenko, while also facing Frenchman Arthur Cazaux on two occasions. He did not drop a single set in these four meetings.

Bublik also faced Botic van de Zandschulp in the Kitzbuhel Open. The Kazakh defeated his Dutch opponent 6-3 6-4. The Dutchman upset Carlos Alcaraz at the 2024 US Open.

Bublik also revealed that the Gstaad Open final against Juan Martin Cerundolo was one of the ‘toughest’ he’s ever played.
