Billie Jean King and Coco Gauff both send messages to Victoria Mboko following her Canadian Open success

Tennis stars the world over have gathered to congratulate Victoria Mboko, after she won the Canadian Open just last night.

And with good reason given who she beat on her way to the title, beating Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Naomi Osaka during her run.

Three former Grand Slam champions fell by the wayside to a wildcard teenager playing in her third-ever Masters 1000 event.

Now, against all the odds, she is a champion.

Naturally, many huge names have emerged to offer the 18-year-old some words of praise, with Gauff, whom she beat on her way to the title, and Billie Jean King being just two of the biggest to congratulate her.

The top-ranked American was the first to take to social media, offering a message of congratulations to both Victoria Mboko and Ben Shelton, the two Canadian Open champions.

After all, not only was she taken out by the Canadian, but she remains good friends with her compatriot as well, so it made sense that the 21-year-old would be quick to react.

Her message to Mboko was just one word: “Congratulations”. Gauff did speak glowingly about the youngster after her loss earlier in the week though.

However, Mboko will surely have been left starstruck by the second social media post she received, coming from the legendary Billie Jean King.

She described the victory as ‘magic’, offering her own congratulatory message too.

Where is Victoria Mboko ranked now after her Canadian Open title?

After Victoria Mboko confirmed she would not be playing in Cincinnati, we now know the highest she can possibly reach ahead of the US Open, provided she doesn’t play in any other events before that final Grand Slam of the year begins.

It unsurprisingly marks a huge climb for the Canadian, who started 2025 ranked 333rd in the world.

Now, she sits 24th, in line for a seeded spot at the US Open. It would be her first time in the main draw of the event.

Her rise has been meteoric and impossible to ignore, with Mboko gathering new fans at a breakneck pace.

Should she take this sparkling form with her to New York, truly special things could happen for this newest sensation on the WTA.
