Burnley vs Liverpool predictions, expected line-ups, how to watch and stats

Liverpool have made the perfect start this season, with nine points from a possible nine and the next stop on the road to a title defence is a trip to Scott Parker’s Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

Arne Slot’s men have bolstered their ranks with the British record transfer of Alexander Isak, but Slot says they will ‘build him up gradually’ given he took no part in Newcastle’s pre-season and is not quite up to speed.

However, the champions have depth in their ranks and French star Hugo Ekitike has got off to a flying start so they should have no problem there.

Meanwhile, the Clarets have shown promising signs this season, with a solid 2-0 home win against Sunderland followed by a good showing at Old Trafford, where things could’ve turned out very differently for them.

Despite the encouraging signs for Parker’s side a tussle with Slot’s superstars could prove a step too far for them.

Burnley team news

Burnley are without long-term absentees Zeki Amdouni and Manuel Benson, who are ruled out for the foreseeable with ACL and Achilles injuries respectively.

Connor Roberts and Jordan Beyer are also unavailable as they nurse knee injuries.

Martin Dubravka is expected to continue in goal, while Jaidon Anthony, who’s scored in back-to-back games, will likely start.

Liverpool team news

Despite his move on deadline day, it looks like Isak will be on the bench as Slot looks to ease him back into match action.

Jeremie Frimpong is available once again after missing the wins against Newcastle and Arsenal with a thigh injury, but Curtis Jones is unavailable for selection after he picked up an injury in his last game.

Ekitike will likely lead the line once again as he has scored three times in four appearances since joining in the summer.

Burnley vs Liverpool stats

Liverpool have won each of their last five games against Burnley, with a combined score of 11-1.

Burnley’s wretched run against the run against the Reds goes even further than that, as they have won just one of their last 13 against the men from Merseyside, with that win a 0-1 success at Anfield in 2021.

Burnley have been unbeaten on home soil in all competitions since the final day of the 23/24 season, when they lost 2-1 to Nottingham Forest.

The match will be refereed by Michael Oliver, the last Liverpool game he refereed was February’s feisty Merseyside derby, which finished in a 2-2 draw after James Tarkowski scored a late equaliser.

Burnley vs Liverpool prediction

Burnley’s miraculous home run will likely come to an end at the hands of the Slot machine, with Liverpool just too strong for the Clarets.

The Reds have been free-scoring this season, finding the net eight times in their opening three games and we think there’ll be more goals on offer here, especially with Burnley’s first three games producing 10 goals. Over 3.5 goals looks like a bet that offers great value.

It’s hard to keep an attack boasting Salah, Ekitike and Gakpo quiet for long and we think the former will be back on the scoresheet after a quiet couple of games against Newcastle and Arsenal. Salah to score anytime looks to hold some good value.
