Cameron Norrie says what gave him ‘goosebumps’ after upsetting Frances Tiafoe in the Wimbledon second round

Cameron Norrie has stunned Frances Tiafoe to make it through to the third round at Wimbledon.

Norrie, who produced an ‘outstanding performance’ according to commentator John Lloyd, defeated the American 12th seed 4-6 6-4 6-3 7-5.

The Brit, who was recently criticised by Coco Gauff’s former coach, showed his grit and determination to fight back from a set down against Tiafoe, serving two aces in the final game to send him on his way to victory.

Norrie, 29, forms part of the strong British contingent present in the Wimbledon second round, with the likes of Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu playing their second round contests across Wednesday and Thursday.

Following an excellent performance, Norrie told the Court One crowd what gave him ‘goosebumps.’

Cameron Norrie said walking onto Court One at Wimbledon gave him ‘goosebumps’

Speaking to the BBC on Wednesday afternoon after his victory, Norrie was told by the interviewer that he had ‘such a big smile’ on his face when walking onto Court One.

Earlier in the interview, Norrie described Court One as his ‘favourite court’ with an ‘amazing atmosphere.’

The interviewer asked: “These days are never lost on you are they?”

Norrie replied: “No, it’s so special. You know, you forget so quickly.

“I obviously walked around the corner there and you just feel just goosebumps. It’s such a special court, such a special tournament. So much tradition and you walk out and it’s just a different kind of feeling, you know?

“And I was just trying to take it all in and enjoy it and smile as much as I could and I’m just going to have to go to battle. So, it was a really, really nice experience today and I was really happy with my level and the enjoyment factor was really high as well.”

Norrie, who came through another tough test in the first round when facing Roberto Bautista Agut, served 17 aces and won 76 per cent of his first serve points during the match against Tiafoe.

Meanwhile, Tiafoe struggled to deal with Norrie’s unbelievably consistent groundstroke game.

Following Norrie’s victory, commentator Andrew Castle sounded almost exasperated when describing the Brit, saying: “What a difficult man to play.”

Cameron Norrie joins Andy Murray on an exclusive list of British players

By beating Tiafoe, Norrie joined an exclusive list of players – one that includes just himself and Andy Murray.

Along with Murray, Norrie is now just the second British player to claim ATP top 20 wins at each of the four Grand Slam events – since the rankings were first published in 1973.

Remarkably, this was Norrie’s first top-20 win at Wimbledon, despite his semi-final appearance in 2022.

Norrie, ranked 61 on the ATP Tour, will face either Queen’s Club finalist Jiri Lehecka or Italy’s Mattia Bellucci in the Wimbledon third round.
