Coco Gauff handed dream Wimbledon draw whilst other American women face Grand Slam champions

Coco Gauff now knows what she must do if she wants to complete the fabled double of winning the French Open and Wimbledon back-to-back, as the draw for the latter has been released.

Completed earlier this morning, Emma Raducanu’s Wimbledon draw was as cruel as could possibly be for the British number one.

However, for this top-ranked American, she has been handed a far kinder path to the latter stages of the event.

Having historically failed to perform consistently on grass, perhaps this year might be the first where she makes a real breakthrough and translates her mesmeric clay-court form onto this surface.

Coco Gauff’s projected draw at Wimbledon 2025

Coco Gauff will kickstart her Wimbledon campaign with a match against Ukrainian Daria Yastremska, one she is expected to win.

Then, Viktoria Azarenka should await in the second round. A former Grand Slam champion, the 35-year-old is far from the superstar she once was. As such, the youth and athleticism of the 21-year-old should prove too much.

Fellow Americans Sofia Kenin and Taylor Townsend are expected to then battle it out for the honour of facing Gauff in the third round.

Normally, preparing to face Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam would be a worry, but her expertise is on clay, and definitely not grass.

This is the surface where she struggles most, and Gauff could capitalise on that.

However, it could also be Elena Rybakina in the Polish star’s place, which would pose a wholly different threat.

Still, even if this was where her run ended, it would mark a year of progression on the grass, capitalising on a dream first few rounds.

All first-round matches for American women at Wimbledon 2025

For the American women, there are a handful of really tricky opening first-round matches which could see some early casualties.

Most notable is McCartney Kessler, who faces the 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the very first round.

Similarly, Townsend’s first-round match against Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open champion, throws up another nightmare opening clash.

Elsewhere, Madison Keys will face Elena-Gabriela Ruse, Peyton Stearns will play Laura Siegemund, Ann Li has been drawn against Viktorija Golubic and the seeded Amanda Anisimova has a tricky task in facing Yulia Putintseva.
