HT: This match has come to life
There’s the siren for half-time. Gold Coast cling to the lead, but this match could go either team’s way. Nate Caddy and Ethan Read are shining brightly for Essendon and the Suns respectively.
HT: Gold Coast 7.3 (45) lead Essendon 6.5 (41)
Goal: Suns fight back
Essendon held the lead for only a minute or two … before Ben King found his second with half-time just around the corner.
Goal: It’s Nate Caddy again
That’s THREE goals for the dynamic Essendon forward. He’s vying with Ethan Read for top honours. And this goal gives the Bombers the lead.
This match has stepped up a notch.
Goal: Ohh, what drama
Peter Wright has a goal … but he’s fortunate!
The Bomber big man fought hard in a marking contest but couldn’t grab the ball. He went to ground and gathered possession with his lumbering frame. Wright managed a small snap that bounced once before the goals and with Mac Andrew on the goal-line. But the Suns defender couldn’t stop it as the Sherrin bounced past him. Even Brad Scott in the coach’s box is having a chuckle.

Merrett racking up the numbers
By Andrew Wu
Zach Merrett a chance for a half-century today. The Bombers captain is up to 20 disposals before time-on in the second quarter. There are times when Merrett is in acres of space.
Goal: Read again for Gold Coast
Red alert: Ethan Read has three goals. He’s proving a big danger under the roof today.
Gold Coast 6.1 (37) lead Essendon 4.4 (28)
Wuey’s snapshot
The good news for Bombers fans is they have had the better of this quarter in general play. The bad news is the Suns have kicked the first two goals, while the Bombers, through Nate Caddy, Peter Wright and Angus Clarke, have missed three shots they should have converted. As I was about to hit “send”, Caddy’s booted a booming goal from outside 50. There’s a bit of Charlie Curnow about Caddy.
Caddy! What a ripping goal
The match-up between Nate Caddy and Mac Andrew is one to behold – a sign of things to come. On this occasion, Andrew gave up a free in a marking contest by chopping the Bomber’s arm. Young Caddy had the free on the boundary line from about 50 metres. He saw an opening, ran around the mark and let fly with a big kick that sailed through.
Goal: King for Gold Coast
After nearly 10 minutes, Ben King marks and goals. Two goals this term to the visitors.
Goal: Suns find their fourth
After less than two minutes of the second term, the Suns get busy. Joel Jeffrey is on the board as Gold Coast keep them at bay.
It was a brilliant run-and-carry goal by Jeffery who started at halfback, gathered possession and after a string of handballs the Sherrin ended with him. He kicked truly.
