First look: Galvin seen training in Bulldogs colours

Here is the first look at Lachlan Galvin in Canterbury colours.

He is yet to be announced as a Bulldog, nor have the Wests Tigers put out a statement about an official release, but the most talked-about young playmaker in the NRL appears to have already made himself at home at Belmore.

It’s a sight that will upset Parramatta fans, who hoped their gun junior could be returning to the club. Instead, Galvin has agreed to a three-and-a-half-year deal to join the Bulldogs and has wasted no time in making his presence felt.

Canterbury has the bye this weekend, but Galvin has wasted no time acquainting himself with his new teammates. The 19-year-old is expected to make his first appearance for the blue-and-whites against Parramatta – the suitor he knocked back – on the King’s Birthday Monday.

Under the transfer rules, players have a 10-day cooling-off period in case they change their mind after signing a contract. It appears Galvin has waived that option in a bid to start forming combinations with his new side.

Galvin has a close relationship with Canterbury assistant coach Luke Vella, who has coached him at junior level. That proved a trump card in ensuring the Bulldogs secured his signature.

The Tigers agreed to grant Galvin a release on the proviso he dropped a bullying legal claim against the club and the Bulldogs provide a transfer fee of about $180,000. A formal announcement could come as soon as Friday afternoon.

Galvin’s arrival will likely result in the departure of halfback Toby Sexton, who is off contract at the end of the season. Hooker Reed Mahoney has also been granted permission to explore his options.
