Frances Tiafoe says he plans to text Andre Agassi after hearing the ‘crazy’ record he’s just broken

Frances Tiafoe has once again made history by reaching the quarter-final of the French Open.

This enigmatic 27-year-old has never been afraid of upsetting the status quo, with his energetic and entertaining brand of tennis almost always promising fireworks.

However, whether it be a loss of motivation or confidence, 2025 has not been kind to him.

His form has abandoned him, and his recent struggles across the last 12 months have only been extended, resulting in some explosive moments from Tiafoe.

Fortunately, his fine performances in the French capital are righting some of those wrongs, with his exploits actually making history for his country.

Frances Tiafoe breaks American French Open record

Welcomed onto the TNT Sports panel, they kickstarted their chat by telling Tiafoe what he has already accomplished at Roland Garros.

The presenter stated the now well-known statistic, that he had become the first man since Andre Agassi in 1995 to reach this stage of the French Open in such perfect fashion, without dropping a set.

Tiafoe was somewhat shocked by this, likely not due to his own success but more down to the failure of his compatriots over the last three decades.

He admitted: ‘Yeah it’s a pretty crazy stat, I just heard that and I’m pretty shocked about it.

‘I want to keep going. As great as that is, it’s still a big opportunity out here and I just want to keep going, not worrying about that. I’ll definitely need to give Andre Agassi a text and be like “I guess we’re boys now.” It really is crazy.’

Frances Tiafoe finds form at the perfect time

Heading into this event, Tiafoe had failed to win four matches in a row all year. Now, he has done it on the biggest stage, in a best-of-five format, without dropping a single set.

It does feel that, as Annacone claims, Tiafoe has a penchant for showing up on the biggest of stages.

However, that does sometimes make the lulls in between Grand Slams so much more damning whilst also heaping pressure on the elite tournaments when they do come around.

Clearly, the American has the game to trouble most players on tour, and yet in 2025, he has routinely suffered exits in the first and second rounds throughout.

Hopefully, this run can prove to be a springboard that reignites his confidence and enforces some consistency heading into the grass-court season.
