IND vs AUS: Dropped from ODI squad, Marnus Labuschagne earns recall for India series with three consecutive hundreds

After being intially overlooked for the forthcoming three-match ODI series against India, starting Sunday in Perth, Marnus Labuschagne has forced his way back into the Australia squad on the back of three consecutive hundreds in the domestic circuit.

Cricket Australia on Friday announced that Labuschagne will return to the squad after it was confirmed that the World champions lost all-rounder Cam Green to injury.

Diagnosed with a “low grade” injury, Green is being held out of the three-match series as a precaution. The 26-year-old expects to play as scheduled in Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield match on October 28.

After being initially dropped from the squad to face India due to scores of one and one against South Africa in August, Labuschagne will now join the team in Perth following the Queensland’s Shield match in Adelaide.

Since September, Labuschagne has cracked four hundreds in five games, including two List A and as many First-Class centuries.

Cricket Australia announced this morning that Green will undergo a short rehabilitation after experiencing “discomfort in his side” during training ahead of the first ODI against India on Sunday.

“Green will complete a short period of rehabilitation and is tracking to return to play in round three of the Sheffield Shield to continue his preparation for the Ashes,” CA said in a statement this morning.

Australia has been forced into a third change for the series opener against India: Josh Philippe replaces the injured wicketkeeper Josh Inglis (calf strain), and Matthew Kuhnemann will play instead of Adam Zampa, who is out for family reasons.
