IPL 2025 Playoffs Qualification Scenarios: Royal Challengers Bengaluru closed in on an IPL Playoffs spot on Saturday night at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after eking out a thrilling 2-run victory over arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings.
Defending a 213-run target meant RCB reached a decisive checkpoint with 16 points in 11 matches on the back of eight wins and only three losses. While Rajat Patidar’s men have taken the top spot in the points table, they are still not confirmed of a Playoffs spot, courtesy the intense battle among the top six teams this season.

With Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals capable of toppling the 16-point mark, alongside Kolkata Knight Riders who pose an outside chance, the Playoffs cut-off for this season is likely to rise over the forthcoming week.

How many points are needed to qualify for IPL 2025 Playoffs?
With 18 matches left and two weeks left in the league stage, the IPL 2025 Playoffs cut-off is likely to be set at 18 points with two teams even hosting a chance of going up to 22 points. Therefore, RCB will need at least one more win in their remaining three matches to ensure a Playoffs spot. MI and GT will require two wins each in their remaining games. Locked at No. 4 and 5 with a one-point difference PBKS and DC need to win at least three of their four remaining games to reach the potential threshold mark. Meanwhile, LSG will need to win all of their remaining fixtures to reach the 18-point mark. KKR, on the other hand, will hope other results also go in their favour as they aim to reach 17 points with wins in all outings to try and reduce the cut-off by at least one point.
What was the IPL Playoffs points table cut-off mark in IPL 2024?
While eventual champions KKR topped the league stage with 20 points last year, RCB qualified as the fourth team with only 14 points in as many games, pipping CSK, DC and LSG in the final match by virtue of NRR. It is the lowest tally with which a team qualified for the IPL Playoffs in the history of the tournament.
Since the return of the 10-team format in 2022, the cut-offs were eventually fixed at 16 in the IPL 2022 and 2023 seasons.
