He kept his emotions in check to deliver a measured, complimentary speech that thanked Carlos Alcaraz for a thrilling final, the organisers for putting together a terrific event, and even the ball kids.
The future of tennis is more than safe in the hands of these two humble superstars.
In breaking his silence, he also sent a brief message to the Spaniard, once again seeking to congratulate him on another French Open title won at his expense.
