Jessica Pegula is enduring a really disappointing run of form, which is threatening to completely derail her season.
After all, she has already won three WTA titles in impressive fashion, albeit none of which have come at a level beyond the 250 events.
Rather frustratingly, this has resulted in a string of poor performances at the bigger events, most notably the Grand Slams.
Pegula’s Wimbledon first-round exit marked yet another dire showing, as she is yet to surpass the fourth round in any of the majors played this year.

That poor form has translated into the North American swing of the tour too now, which has been one of her favoured legs of the tour in recent memory.
This culminated in Pegula’s loss to the 35-year-old Latvian player Anastasija Sevastova in Montreal last night.
Jessica Pegula reacts to shock defeat at Canadian Open
Chatting with the press after her damaging defeat, Pegula cut an understandably downbeat figure as she answered questions.
Seeking to explain what had just occurred, losing to the world number 406 in shocking fashion, she admitted: “Yeah, I mean, she played a couple of good points. I don’t really remember all of them. I think a few she played a couple of good points. Maybe one I missed a couple of returns that I feel like I cannot miss in that moment.
“I’m usually pretty good in those points, but I don’t know, the last two matches it’s felt like I maybe haven’t been as, I don’t know, consistent kind of in those times where I feel like I can put pressure on someone in a tough moment.
“Today, I just maybe wish a couple of those at least making the return or hitting a good return and pressuring her to make her come up with an even better shot. Maybe things would have been different, but I don’t know.”
Jessica Pegula starts her North American swing in the worst possible way
Coming off the back of a frustrating Wimbledon, where she was one of the many high-profile seeds to lose early, Pegula would have wanted nothing more than to put that behind her in North America.
And, heading to Montreal, at an event where she was the winner last year, it seemed like the perfect place to rectify those woes.
Year | Event | Round reached | Defeated by | Matches won |
2025 | Canadian Open | Round of 32 | Anastasija Sevastova | 1 |
2025 | Washington Open | Round of 16 | Leylah Fernandez | 0 |
2025 | Wimbledon | First Round | Elisabetta Cocciaretto | 0 |
2025 | Bad Homburg | Winner | N/A | 4 |
2025 | Berlin Open | Round of 16 | Liudmila Samsonova | 0 |
Alas, she has now lost in the first round of the Washington Open, and just the second round of the Canadian Open, in turn sacrificing plenty of ranking points.
Worryingly for Pegula, she has plenty more to defend too given she was a finalist in both Cincinnati and the US Open last year.
This has been the worst possible start to the North American swing of the tour for the 31-year-old, who needs to find answers to her recent issues with haste.
