Josh Mauro, the former NFL defensive end has died at the age of 35. His family has announced the news on social media.

While a few unconfirmed posts on social media claim he suffered from ALS, Mauro’s cause of death has not yet been made public by his family.

Josh’s father, Greg Mauro has revealed that his son passed away last Thursday on April 23.

“With many tears and broken hearts, yet anchored in the unshakable certainty that our precious Josh Mauro is now healed and made new—living in the presence of the Lord—we humbly covet your prayers as our family walks through the devastating loss of our amazing son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend,” Greg Mauro wrote on Facebook, as per The Mirror.

“On Thursday, April 23rd, Josh breathed his last breath on this earth and his first breath in heaven. The Lord has been our strength in this unimaginable moment. Your prayers for continued strength and comfort mean more to us than words could ever express,” he added.

Who was Josh Mauro?

Josh Mauro was born on February 17, 1991 in St Albans. He later moved to the United States and grew up in Texas where he became a strong high school football player.

He played college football at Stanford University from 2010 to 2013. During that time, he made 81 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks and forced two fumbles, according to The Mirror.

After not being selected in the 2014 NFL Draft, he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers but was later released. He then went on to play in the NFL for six years with teams like the Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Mauro spent most of his career with the Arizona Cardinals, playing from 2014 to 2017 and again from 2020 to 2021

In total, he played 80 NFL games, recording 130 tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
