Emma Raducanu had an encouraging performance at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.
After reaching the quarter-finals at Queen’s Club, the 22-year-old reached the third round after defeating former champion at SW19 Marketa Vondrousova 6-3, 6-3.
This earned the British number one a match against Aryna Sabalenka, and she had multiple chances to win.
Though Raducanu came up short and lost 6-7, 4-6, she can be proud of her efforts at Wimbledon and having Mark Petchey in her corner has certainly helped.

Mark Petchey says that being Emma Raducanu’s coach is currently ‘short term’
Since her shock 2021 US Open victory, Emma Raducanu has had several different coaches.
She has been coached by Sebastian Sachs, Nigel Sears, Andrew Richardson, Torben Beltz and Dmitry Tursunov.
Raducanu was last coached by Nick Cavaday. But he chose to leave his role as Raducanu’s coach due to health issues at the start of the 2025 season and Petchey now occupies the role.
Raducanu has known Petchey from her youth. She has seemed quite settled since he joined her team and the performance against Sabalenka at Wimbledon was very encouraging.

While Raducanu seems to be enjoying working with Petchey and vice versa, it remains to be seen how long their partnership will last due to the 54-year-old’s commentary commitments.
However, Petchey has since provided an update on the state of his coaching relationship with Raducanu on the Nothing Ventured podcast. “I think at the moment we are a bit more short term,” he said. “Our situation is a little fluid at the moment.
“I am going to help her this week as much as I can, I have some other commitments I can’t get out of. We are very aware she needs a second coach to come on board and maybe just one coach, not me, as well.
“All I am trying to do is facilitate the best possible environment for Emma to produce the best tennis she can. Whether that involves me or does not involve me is not a question I am worried about, we are just trying to find something that will be stable or good for her.”

When is Emma Raducanu’s next tournament?
Petchey confirmed that Raducanu is currently taking some time off before heading to Washington to compete in the Citi Open.
“Her next tournament is going to be in Washington and then she will stay out in the States the whole time,” Petchey said.
Raducanu has competed in America’s capital city on two occasions, and reached the quarter-finals both times. In 2022, Raducanu advanced to the last eight where she faced Liudmila Samsonova, but was beaten 6-7, 1-6.
Two years later, Raducanu was one set away from reaching the semi-finals, but Paula Badosa completed a comeback to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
It remains to be seen what Raducanu will do at the Citi Open in 2025, her first tournament on the road to the US Open.
