Carlos Alcaraz has established himself as a certified tennis superstar.

The Spaniard’s infectious personality, exciting style of play and the joy with which he plays the game has endeared him to millions of fans around the world.

At the age of 22, he already has five Grand Slam titles to his name and is the youngest man to become world number one.

Manchester United’s Bryan Mbuemo said it was ‘crazy’ watching Carlos Alcaraz win the French Open after being two sets down to Jannik Sinner

The 2025 French Open final between Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner was one of the all-time great matches.

The two best players in the world faced one another in a Grand Slam final for the first time and it did not disappoint.

One of those watching the pulsating action on Court Phillippe Chatrier was Premier League footballer Bryan Mbuemo, who transferred from Brentford to Manchester United this summer.

He witnessed the five-hour and 29-minute epic in which Alcaraz reversed a two-set deficit to win the French Open 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6, (3) 7-6 (10-2) in the second-longest Grand Slam final of all time.

During a conversation with TNT Sports, Mbuemo recalled how he felt seeing the match in person and how he was inspired by Alcaraz’s heroics.

“Obviously I was watching the final there, and looking at Alcaraz being two sets down and at the end, winning the game, in a fantastic atmosphere, it was crazy,” Mbuemo said.

“A lot of sports just give you so much to get inspired by, because this is a different game but in the end it’s the same mentality. This is how I try to help myself to get things from these sports.”

Bryan Mbuemo wants Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner to have success similar to Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic

Alongside his passion for football, Mbuemo has previously expressed his interest in tennis.

In November 2024, the forward player took to social media to post about the retirement of 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal.

The Spaniard hung up his racket following Spain’s exit from the Davis Cup, which came before a tribute ceremony at the French Open six months later.

During his conversation with TNT Sports, Mbuemo was asked if he thinks Alcaraz and Sinner can achieve success similar to Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

The trio have a combined 66 Grand Slam titles in addition to numerous other records. It is a tough task, but Mbuemo would like to see Alcaraz and Sinner attain similar success in tennis. “I hope so, for the history,” Mbuemo said. It would be good.”
