Nick Kyrgios shares what he thinks of Novak Djokovic and their match he still ‘thinks about often’

Nick Kyrgios has formed a strong bond with Novak Djokovic in recent years.

The pair previously did not like each other and the Australian has shared his brutally honest thoughts about the former world number one on numerous occasions.

But since then Nick Kyrgios came out in support of Djokovic following his deportation from Australia during the coronavirus pandemic, their relationship has strengthened.

They have since conducted podcast episodes together and played doubles with one another, and they understand each other in ways they previously did not.

What does Nick Kyrgios think of Novak Djokovic?

Novak Djokovic has experienced a polarising relationship with tennis crowds around the world for the vast majority of his career.

The Serbian recently admitted his desire to have spectators show him the same love as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have received.

However, he now embraces whatever reaction he is greeted with and this is something Kyrgios has noticed about the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

“He’s way more comfortable in his own skin now. I think he did want the crowd to love him, but he enjoys being the villain. He finds energy when people heckle him,” Kyrgios said.

“He’s the greatest tennis player of all time so he wouldn’t care as much what people think now.

“We have respect for each other and we are proof that different personalities can make it to the top and you don’t have to have everyone liking you.”

Which tennis match does Nick Kyrgios keep thinking about?

Kyrgios has played some exciting and entertaining matches during his career.

But the biggest and most important match he has been involved in is the 2022 Wimbledon Championships final against Djokovic.

Djokovic was going for his seventh title at SW19 while Kyrgios went in search of his first. Though he took an early lead, the 24-time Grand Slam champion fought back to claim a four-set victory.

This is a match Kyrgios keeps thinking about and believes had he made different choices throughout his career, he could have been a Wimbledon champion.

“It was only a couple of points here and there where, if I’d acted a bit differently, I would have had a Wimbledon title,” Kyrgios added. “But there’s no shame in losing to the greatest of all time.

“Do I think about it often? Yes. Do I think about what I could have changed? Yes. Could I have prepared better? No. I prepared amazingly.”
