Lando Norris won the Austrian Grand Prix from pole position in a McLaren one-two on Sunday after fending off championship-leading teammate Oscar Piastri.

The Briton’s third victory of the season cut Australian Piastri’s Formula 1 lead from 22 to 15 points after 11 of 24 rounds, with the two McLaren drivers increasingly in a battle of their own.

Charles Leclerc completed the podium for Ferrari with teammate Lewis Hamilton fourth and George Russell fifth for Mercedes.

The race got away to an eventful start when Red Bull’s Max Verstappen suffered his first retirement of the Formula 1 season after a collision with Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli on the opening lap of his team’s home grand prix.

The four-times world champion had started seventh on the grid, with Italian rookie Antonelli ninth, at a circuit where he has won a record five times.

Antonelli, who clearly caused the turn three collision, also retired and the safety car was deployed.

“I’m out – I got hit like crazy,” Verstappen, third in the championship going into the race, said over the team radio.

“Sorry about that – I locked the rear,” Antonelli told his team.
