Pat Cash names the only player on the ATP Tour who he thinks can catch Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, ‘he’s got class’

Pat Cash names the only player on the ATP Tour who he thinks can catch Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, ‘he’s got class’

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are backed to be the two leading names on the ATP Tour for years to come.

Sinner returned at the Italian Open, after being unable to compete on the ATP Tour for three months due to his suspension from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The world number one continued in a similar vein of form that he left off, with Sinner reaching the final in Rome for the first time.

However, Sinner was unable to go all the way, with Alcaraz beating his rival in their first meeting of the 2025 season.

Pat Cash says Jack Draper can catch Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner

When discussing Alcaraz and Sinner on BBC 5 Live Sport, former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash backed the pair to lead the way for the ATP Tour.

However, the Australian also named Indian Wells champion Jack Draper as someone who could challenge them both, and was full of praise for the current world number five.

“They [Sinner and Alcaraz] are head and shoulders above the other players, the only player that can catch them I think is Jack Draper,” said Cash. “I think he’s got the class to do that over the next few years. But these two are going to be, you know, holding the torch for a long time.”

Cash added, “You know I loved watching Draper beat [Holger] Rune at Indian Wells, it just showed the difference in competitiveness. Draper knows how to win, and he’s a great competitor.

“He’s got a monstrous left-handed serve, big forehand, great backhand, can move really, really well. He’s got the X-Factor, so I think there’ll be three of them, I mean two of them mainly, but yeah I think Draper’s right there.”

Has Jack Draper beaten Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner before?

If Draper is to live up to the expectation that Cash has of him then he is going to need to be able to beat both Alcaraz and Sinner.

Draper actually beat Alcaraz en route to winning the biggest title of his career so far at Indian Wells earlier this year, adding to his victory over the Spaniard at Queen’s last year.

However, Alcaraz has since got revenge and beat Draper in the recent quarter-finals of the Italian Open.

Draper’s head-to-head with Sinner is currently level at one win apiece, with the Brit also beating the three-time Grand Slam champion back in 2021 on the grass of Queen’s Club.

The next time that Draper can go head-to-head with the current top two ranked players on the ATP Tour is at Roland Garros, where he has never previously won a main draw match.

Draper will learn the fate of his draw for Roland Garros on Thursday, May 22.
