Paula Badosa reveals how long she will now be injured for in fresh update after losing in the first round at Wimbledon

Paula Badosa has enjoyed a torrid time on the WTA Tour recently, having lost in the first round of Wimbledon.

The former world number two lost to Britain’s Katie Boulter in three sets, resulting in delight for many Centre Court fans but disappointment for the Spaniard and her hopes of a first Grand Slam title.

However, another more serious issue has troubled the Spaniard in recent history.

Badosa has a history of back injuries, including a stress fracture in her lower back that forced her to end her 2023 season and led to her considering retirement.

On Monday afternoon, Badosa provided tennis fans an update on her injury status.

Paula Badosa reveals fresh back injury she suffered before Wimbledon

Posting on her Instagram story, Badosa revealed she suffered a tear in her psoas – a lower back muscle – which will keep her out of competition for a few weeks.

She said: “Hi everyone, been disconnected for a while but I wanted to update you on my situation right now.

“I’ve been going through some tough moments lately…

“Unfortunately, I’ve been dealing with a tear on my psoas since before Wimbledon, and it’s going to keep me out of competition for a few weeks.

“These are really challenging times for me, but I’m staying hopeful that things will turn around soon and the light at the end of the tunnel will start to shine through.

“Thank you for all the immense support, P [Paula].”

Badosa drops only one place in the WTA rankings despite first round loss at Wimbledon

Badosa’s loss to Katie Boulter in the first round of Wimbledon has not affected her ranking as much as many may have expected.

After reaching the fourth round at last year’s event, the Spaniard did lose some rankings points but not enough to see her slip out of the top 10.

Badosa was seeded ninth before the tournament and has been pushed down one spot by Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova, who has risen to world number seven on the WTA rankings.

It remains to be seen whether Badosa will be fit in time for the US Open, which starts at the end of August.
