Race-by-race tips and previews for Warwick Farm on Wednesday

Selections based on a soft track.
Race 1
There’s plenty to like about how 1. Aryaam has gone about things winning her two trials. The latest was narrow and you have to wonder what’s in the locker from it but she does look an on pacer and will give herself every chance. 8. Leonessa was scratched from last week, both trials have been quite pleasing, without her being overly tested. Expect she’ll be strong late. 2. Chataigne showed significant improvement into her second trial. She could surprise.
How to play it: Aryaam to win.

Race 2
7. The Next Episode had little chance from where he wound up in the Golden Gift, when in the market, so happy to overlook that. He was hard to miss sweeping home to win easily in his latest trial. 6. Steel Will has had a number of trials over the past couple of months and is a big market watch. Imagine he’s a little conservative early and looks to be hitting the line. 5. Peyton is yet to lose a barrier trial and makes his debut having scored easily in his latest at Warwick Farm. Now has to bring it to race day and if he does he’ll run well.
How to play it: The Next Episode to win.

Race 3
8. Spice Prawn is threatening to win but often leaves the run too late and this is a big race for her. Goes up in trip which could be key to her chances. Blinkers go on, so everything points to her being a bit harder to beat. 3. Maidoff didn’t give up the chase when runner-up at Rosehill two weeks ago. With a string of placings to her name she won’t be far away. 7. Sphere is another with a run of placings and she also made it four on end when third at Rosehill in the same race as Spice Prawn from up on the pace.
How to play it: Spice Prawn to win.

Race 4
5. Compensation has looked smart at the trials winning by big margins seemingly without any effort. Finds a maiden with plenty of first starters so sometimes you never know what will jump out at you, but they’ll need to be smart to run him down. 8. Metallic Cat comes through a trial at Randwick that has produced a winner and she kept finding the line running second. Won a short trial before that. She looks a logical danger. 9. Look Here resumes with the blinkers on and was honest in her first racing preparation with three placings. Improving track would help her.
How to play it: Compensation to win.

Race 5
9. Fiddlers Green was probably only fair second-up but not disgraced and his fresh effort on a soft 7 reads pretty well for the conditions he faces. Hasn’t won at the mile but gets a nice opportunity with those runs under his belt. 2. Freight Train took what is a big scalp in Half Yours at the end of his preparation back in June and resumes with a couple of trials at a suitable sort of trip. Worth keeping safe. 8. Saint Emilion showed improvement second-up when big odds running fourth behind Unleeshing a month ago. Will continue to improve with distance.
How to play it: Fiddlers Green each-way.

Race 6
3. Nesrine will be looking for an improving track but she’s the real up and comer of this field and has to be the starting point. Put three wins together in the spring at provincial level and doesn’t meet the strongest field for a city debut. 2. Thames hasn’t really had the best of it in two runs back and the blinkers go on here which might be significant. If she can find the form from last preparation she’ll win. 6. Vanessi continues to collect placings and is up to four successive thirds in similar sort of company. Just the one win, that’s the concern, but she’ll be around the mark.
How to play it: Nesrine to win.

Race 7
7. Our Queen is unbeaten when first-up and a soft track wouldn’t hold her back you’d think given her early form. Brilliant fresh back in September then didn’t replicate it second-up at $1.40. Latest trial was superb and she’ll be hard to beat. 4. Polyglot will appreciate a bit of give in the track after a solid second-up effort beating all but Signor Tortoni at Rosehill a couple of weeks ago. No surprise if he wins. 3. Grand Prairie trialled nicely behind Globe recently at Rosehill and a wet track holds no fears. He’s a Group 3 winner and won fresh last time in. Must respect him.
How to play it: Our Queen to win.

Race 8
12. Pictor started $3.80 when resuming in a small field at Rosehill and it probably just didn’t suit him. Blinkers off and don’t mind him drawn out late in the day on a wet track, especially with plenty of speed engaged. Have to give him another chance. 7. Monte Veebee has been costly in two starts since an easy first-up win. He’s been right in the finish but beaten at $1.70 and $3.40. Down a notch in class. 14. Satirically led all the way to an easy debut win over this track and distance almost a month ago. Rises in class and finds a soft track but have to be wary of him.
How to play it: Pictor each-way.
