RCB’s Virat Kohli climbs to top of Orange Cap standings after 62 vs CSK

Royal Challengers batter Virat Kohli went on top of the Orange Cap standings on Friday with his blistering 33-ball 62-run innings against the Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. At the beginning of the day, Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan was on top of the charts but with his innings, peppered with five fours and five sixes, Kohli, who was fifth, climbed up the standings to the first position with 505 runs.

Following Kohli and Sudharsan in the top 5 are Mumbai IndiansSuryakumar Yadav, Gujarat Titans’ Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill.

In the match, he also became the first player to score the most number of sixes for a franchise when he reached 300 maximums for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He is followed by 263 by Chris Gayle for RCB, 262 by Rohit Sharma for MI, 258 by Kieron Pollard for MI and 257 by MS Dhoni for CSK.

It may be mentioned here that in the last month, Kohli had snatched the Orange Cap from the head Suryakumar Yadav as he successfully led Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s chase of 163 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi against the Delhi Capitals. In that occasion, Kohli had scored his half century off 45 balls on and then fell for 51 run with the target in touching distance.

In the match, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their Indian Premier League match.

CSK retained their previous match playing XI for this contest while RCB replaced Josh Hazlewood with Lungi Ngidi.

RCB will look to bolster their standing in the IPL points table while CSK are already out of contention for the playoffs. RCB had beaten CSK by 50 runs in Chennai in their earlier match in the tournament.
