Marketa Vondrousova reminded the tennis world what she is capable of at the Berlin Open.
The Czech star entered a strong field in the German capital that included nine of the WTA’s top 10 players.
In just her sixth tournament of the year, Vondrousova defeated two Grand Slam champions on the way to claiming her third career title and a first since Wimbledon.
As a result, former semi-finalist at the All-England Club Sam Querrey thinks she will be a huge threat at the grass court major this year.

Does Sam Querrey think Marketa Vondrousova can win Wimbledon?
Grass is a surface that tends to produce many unpredictable results due to the faster and low bouncing surface.
Furthermore, the players have little time to adjust and with the grass court season being much shorter than the stints on hard and clay courts.
Vondrousova stunned the world when she claimed the Wimbledon title in 2023, but the past 18 months have been very difficult for the 25-year-old.
She sustained a nightmare run of injuries and was limited to just 11 tournaments in 2024 before ending her season after Wimbledon.
Now she is back fit and with a title to her name just before heading back to SW19, and Sam Querrey thinks Vondrousova is a big favourite for the title.
“She has only played six or seven tournaments in the last year. She has been hurt, I think she had shoulder surgery, but after watching her in Berlin and specifically that match against Sabalenka,” the American told the Nothing Major podcast.
“She is unreal on the grass, as we know, she has won Wimbledon. She knows how to play on the grass. She is a lefty, which always makes it difficult. I honestly think she is a top five favourite to win Wimbledon right now.
“She is that good on the grass, especially after winning Wimbledon and winning Berlin, which I think had nine of the top 10 women in that field.
“But for her to not play that much and then roll through a W, I am bullish on Vondrousova. She looks good and she is just impressive. She just knows her way around the grass court.”

What are Marketa Vondrousova’s expectations at Wimbledon?
Vondrousova was thrilled to be a champion on the WTA Tour once again.
She defeated Wang Xinyu 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 to lift the title and build some form and confidence ahead of Wimbledon.
Just like the year she won the title, Vondrousova will be unseeded at Wimbledon and though she is feeling good about her tennis at present, she will not get carried away.
“I’m not going to be seeded, so … I always say it’s one tournament, in one week. And then, if you make it, the next week is very different,” she told the WTA Tennis website.
“So I’ll just try to enjoy a few days off now and back to hard work. Stay grounded, stay in your lane, focus on tennis and play these matches as if nothing happened.”
