The Wimbledon seeds have continued to fall at Wimbledon, shocking tennis fans across the globe.
A record-breaking 23 seeds exited the tournament in the first round across the men’s and women’s singles tournaments, which was labelled as ‘amazing by Tim Henman.
Across the women’s draw, 14 seeds have now been knocked out of Wimbledon after three days of action, including the likes of Coco Gauff, Qinwen Zheng and last year’s finalist, Jasmine Paolini.

Despite Gauff’s shock exit to Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska, another American hope has emerged as a potential contender following the exodus of seeds from the main draw.
Amanda Anisimova is labelled the ‘favourite’ to make the Wimbledon semi-finals
Amanda Anisimova, whose tennis idols growing up were Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, has enjoyed an impressive 2025 season so far after reaching the Queen’s Club Championships final and winning the Qatar Open.
The American, ranked 12th in the world, has been tipped as the ‘favourite’ to reach the semi-finals at Wimbledon by journalist Matt Roberts.
Roberts noted that Anisimova seemed on the ‘edge’ during her victory over Renata Zarazua, perhaps due to an awareness of an opportunity opening up in the draw.

Speaking on The Tennis Podcast, Roberts said: “I felt like Anisimova was a little bit on the edge today in terms of her frustration levels I think maybe she’s aware of the draw she’s got here.
“I said right when the draw was made she’s got a good draw and it has opened up even more.
“This honestly, I say it all the time, sometimes players just have a window, a moment. This to me feels like that for a deep run here because I do think she’s now to favourite to make the semi-final given her draw.
Catherine Whitaker, also on the podcast, chimed in: “On paper, Matt’s right.”
Roberts continued: “With her ranking with her form this year, with the way she’s won a tonne of matches on the grass already this season and I think she was aware of that.
“She was exclaiming more than she normally does, even positively she was really letting out big roars.
“She was a set (up) on serve in the second. It wasn’t massively on the edge on the scoreline but she seemed a little bit on the edge.
“I thought she played well. Her serve was a problem, she wasn’t serving all that well. A lot of double faults but when she needed to she focused and she just sort of took over with her power game over Zarazua, finished with a backhand winner literally right in front of me, which was great.”
Amanda Anisimova’s path to the Wimbledon semi-finals
The claim by Matt Roberts holds real weight when considering that she won’t face a seed above 30 in the world before potentially facing Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals.
The world number 12 could face 30th seed Linda Noskova in the next round, before suiting up against world number 50 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. However, Sonay Kartal may be in the picture, considering her excellent form, and former Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka remains a threat.
Round of Wimbledon | Potential Opponent |
Fourth Round | Linda Noskova (seeded 30) |
Quarter-Final | Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (ranked 50) |
Semi-Final | Aryna Sabalenka (seeded one) |
In Anisimova’s half of the draw, seeds like Jasmine Paolini, Qinwen Zheng and Paula Badosa have all exited the competition, giving the American a superb opportunity to reach the final.
However, the 23-year-old must focus on her next opponent in the Wimbledon third round before dreaming of a deep run at the tournament. She faces Dalma Galfi on Thursday, with a time yet to be confirmed.
