Two Brits make it through day two of Wimbledon qualifying but six crash out

Wimbledon qualifying can be a brutal place, with players across the globe battling to earn potential Grand Slam stardom.

It has been no less easy for the British contingent, many of whom began their Wimbledon journey on Tuesday.

Following Wimbledon qualifying day one on Monday, Britain’s female players enjoyed their first taste of the grass-court surface.

Here are the two British women who made it through the first round of Wimbledon qualifying on day two.

The 22-year-old, ranked 268 on the WTA Tour, showed all her grit to battle past Austrian player Julia Grabher, winning 6-4 1-6 6-3.

Banks, who has won 14 of her 23 matches so far this year, will face Polish 32nd seed Katarzyna Kawa in the next round of qualifying on Wednesday afternoon.

One fan said on X: “Missed this result earlier, Armani Banks comes through her opening round match at Wimbledon qualifying 6-4 1-6 6-3 against Grabher.

Excellent result for Banks just the second Brit through today at SW19!”

She will face Czechia’s Barbora Palicova in the second qualifying round on Wednesday afternoon.
