Victoria Mboko eclipses a record held by Bianca Andreescu after defeating Sofia Kenin at the Canadian Open

Victoria Mboko has continued to sparkle during the early stages of her career.

Mboko, who is still only 18 years old, has made it through to the third round of the Canadian Open with relative ease.

The young Canadian star, who hopes to play Coco Gauff in the fourth round, swept aside Sofia Kenin to advance in Montreal.

The world number 27 was simply no match for the world number 85, as Mboko waltzed to a 6-2 6-3 victory.

By defeating Kenin, Mboko created tennis history for her country.

Victoria Mboko creates Canadian tennis history

As per OptaAce, Victoria Mboko is now the youngest Canadian in the Open Era to defeat a Grand Slam champion in the Women’s Singles at the Canadian Open, surpassing Bianca Andreescu.

Mboko was aged 18 years and 336 days when she defeated former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin

By contrast, Andreescu, who has been forced to withdraw from the Canadian Open through injury, was aged 19 years and 50 days when she completed the feat.

The Canadian could face another Grand Slam champion in the fourth round, if she can advance. Number one seed Coco Gauff is present in her section of the draw.

If the two were to meet, it would be an almighty battle. The potential contest would provide an early indicator as to Mboko’s level against one of the best WTA Tour players.

However, Mboko will have to first move past a strong competitor if she hopes to face Gauff.

Victoria Mboko faces Marie Bouzkova in the next round

Marie Bouzkova will provide an extremely stern test for Victoria Mboko.

Ranked 39 in the world, Bouzkova has previously beaten Aryna Sabalenka and Jelena Ostapenko on the WTA Tour.

Bouzkova and Mboko have never faced each other on the WTA Tour. However, both players will walk onto court in red-hot form.

While Mboko’s victory over Kenin was impressive, Bouzkova also recorded a stunning triumph, defeating world number nine Diana Shnaider.

The winner of Mboko versus Bouzkova will face either Coco Gauff or Veronika Kudermetova in the Canadian Open fourth round.
