Victoria Mboko may have just won the Canadian Open title, but already attention has turned to what’s next for her.
After all, tennis is a relentless, rapid-fire sport, and players are barely given time to process the enviable highs of such a win before they are forced back into action halfway across the world.
Fortunately, the next big event is only in Cincinnati, but that still marks a frustrating trip to make given that, with the strange new format, it had already begun before the final was played in Montreal.
With that in mind, many were keen to find out if Victoria Mboko would be making the speedy trip over to Cincinnati. She has now given her definitive answer.
Victoria Mboko confirms whether she’ll play the Cincinnati Open
Speaking to reporters after the match, the Canadian had plenty of questions to answer, ranging from her immediate reaction to her opponent’s decision to snub her own press conference.
Osaka came under fire for failing to congratulate Mboko in her post-match speech, but this was not mentioned during the latter’s reaction to her win.

Instead, she was asked about the Cincinnati Open, with one reporter willing her to ‘clarify her status’ for the next Masters 1000 event in the calendar.
Her reply was short and wholly understandable: “Yeah, I’m not planning on playing Cincinnati at the moment. I just want to take care of my wrist a little bit right now, and I think it’s just very close and sudden for me to go there and play again, I think in, like, two days.
“I think I’m just going to sit out on that one and prepare for the upcoming tournaments.”
Victoria Mboko should be brimming with confidence at the US Open
Before this week’s Canadian Open triumph, Mboko had never threatened in any Masters 1000 event.
In fact, this year alone has seen her make her debut in two Grand Slam events too, highlighting just how new on the tour she is.
And yet, she has already achieved a milestone that many dream of throughout their entire career, sparking widespread excitement over what she might be able to accomplish in New York.
Especially given how proficient and comfortable she has looked on this surface, beating players like Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka, both of whom boast US Open titles.
It would be disingenuous to expect a really deep run from Mboko at the final major of the year, but in what has been a remarkable 2025, it really feels like anything is possible with her.
She should head to the US Open, in what will be her debut in the main draw, so full of confidence. Nobody will want to see her name on their side of the draw.
