Virat Kohli reached 13,000 runs in T20 cricket during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Indian Premier League 2025 match against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.
The 36-year-old Kohli reached the milestone when he touched 17 runs during his innings. Kohli is the first Indian to reach the 13,000 T20 runs landmark and only the fifth batter overall to achieve the feat.

Second fastest to 13,000
Kohli reached the milestone in his 386th T20 innings, making him the second-fastest batter to the milestone after West Indies legend Chris Gayle who reached 13,000 runs in only 381 innings. Kohli bettered English batter Alex Hales by nearly 90 innings to take the second spot on the list.

During IPL 2024, Kohli waltzed past 12,000 T20 runs as the second-fastest batter behind Gayle in only 360 innings.
Among Indians, Rohit Sharma stands second on the list of T20 run-getters, with 11,851 runs in 438 innings.
Kohli made his T20 debut on April 3, 2007, for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh in the Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament, later renamed as the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy, scoring 35 in the match.
Kohli also leads the charts among Indian batters in terms of centuries, smashing nine in his career, eight of which have come in the IPL. Kohli had previously gone past the 10,000-run mark T20 milestone during the 2021 IPL, reaching the feat in 299 innings as the third-quickest batter after Babar Azam and Gayle.
