Why the KKR-CSK wrangle over Cam Green in the mock auction had spinoff fan chatters on socials ahead of the IPL mini auction

โ€œMini auction, but MAX excitement. Just one sleep away,โ€ announced KKRโ€™s socials with a video of the construction of the auction set at the Etihad Arena, ahead of the IPLโ€™s biggest winter shopping day. With KKR going for Cameron Green for a ridiculous 30 crores, chased all the way by CSK similarly looking for a middle order all rounder, fans on social media started chants of really buying Green on the main auction day. While experts reckoned realistically the two teams would wrangle upto Rs 20 crore, the mock auction seemed to have started a chorusing refrain from KKR fans to land the Aussie, to replace Andre Russell.

With the biggest purse available, fans had assumed Green was the real target and were pleading with the franchise to not back out, joking about wrath of Kolkata fans.

CSK meanwhile asked Twitter fans, โ€œAny good uncapped player suggestions we should bid for?โ€ With eyes wide open emoji and yellove heart. They were pointed in the direction of Auqib Nabi, Kartik Sharma and death overs specialist Prashant Veer by several comments. A Esakkimuthu and Ashok Sharma was also suggested by the 400-odd group sourced responders. When CSK quipped and asked, โ€œBest auction tea youโ€™ve heard so far?โ€ about speculated players (tea = dumbspeak for gossip), many responded with green tea (Cameron) and Kashmiri tea (Nabi).

CSK were also shopping for a second finisher, as they posted a yellow silhouette , with โ€œDeath overs = pure carnage. Thala + who seals it?โ€

Franchises received advice of not choking or bottling while chasing their targets.

While MI ran a fan quiz about their previous auctions, SRH was quizzing its fans on which all-rounder to go shopping for โ€“ Liam Livingstone was a fan favourite. Chama Milind was a local choice, while Bracewell, Nabi and Green had interested parties there too. Ravi Bishnoi was also someone fans wanted SRH to snap up to bolster spin.

Punjab Kings brought out the swag on socials, with a soundtrack for Captain Shreyas Iyerโ€™s arrival. Delhi Capitals were seeking auction suggestions on their socials for opener, middle order batter, uncapped Indian and fast bowler. Finn Allen and Jamie Smith were fan demands. As was Jake FMcG and Quinny.

RCB were threatening to serve what they had cooked, on Twitter, and fans mystery was, โ€œwhat they be cooking?โ€ One suggestion was to bring Rohit Sharma to Bangalore. Fans also voted in, answering the franchise asking for their spin preference, with Bishnoi getting into the frame straight away.

Andy Flower in the auction eve RCB diaries was heard saying, โ€œIt makes me really uncomfortable that we had so many discussions and now we are questioning conclusions we came to,โ€ looking pensive and sipping sparkling water. The mock discussion was feigning confusion and faking indecision as banter.

Rajasthan Royals posted a cryptic tweet with Kumar Sangakkara talking into his phone hiding the receiver, and mouthing a movie lin, โ€œDulhan ki bidaayi ka waqtโ€, a reference to the date 16 December. RR got into a banter with Grok on a picture caption of their management, with first sighting of CEO Jake Lush McCrum.
