Dunn holds a strong hand in memorial Cup meeting at Grafton

Murwillumbah horseman Matthew Dunn will have his usual strong representation at Grafton on Wednesday with the Jacaranda Cup meeting set to honour local legend Rex Kelly.

The recently deceased Kelly was a Clarence River Jockey Club stalwart, having served as track supervisor and starter at the track for many years after enjoying a stellar career in the saddle in the Northern Rivers going back more than 50 years.

CRJC chief executive Michael Beattie said the Grafton club has honoured Kelly with the running of the Starter Mr Rex Kelly RIP Country Boosted Maiden Handicap (1700m).

Resurgent jockey Wayne Wheatley is out to continue his successful return to the professional riding ranks when he partners McCosker for trainer Peter Sinclair in the event.

“Rex was so important to this club and Northern Rivers racing for more than 50 years,” Beattie said.

“It’s only fitting we named a race after him and we expect a big crowd to come out and pay their
respects to him.”

Dunn will kick-start his day when last-start costly conveyance Insta Worthy contests the Remembering Peter Lindeman Maiden Handicap (1000m).

Insta Worthy was beaten into second place at Lismore as a $1.55 favourite at his first run back from a spell.

Andrew Mallyon partners Insta Worthy and also combines with the Dunn-prepared Deep Stealth, which also comes off a last-start Lismore second at $1.60, in the Tower Street Country Boosted Benchmark 58 Handicap (1175m).
