Borussia Dortmund ended a three-match winless run with a decisive 4-0 triumph against 10-man Villarreal, powered by a double from Serhou Guirassy.
The Guinean striker broke the deadlock in stoppage time before the break, heading home from a corner, and he made it 2-0 early in the second half.
Villarreal’s Juan Foyth was sent off for handling a goal-bound strike by Karim Adeyemi to concede a penalty and although Guirassy’s initial effort from the spot was saved by the keeper Luiz Júnior, the forward was quickest to react and slotted home the rebound.
Three minutes later Dortmund added a third through Adeyemi from inside the box, and Daniel Svensson wrapped up the win with a header from the last move of the match.
The result lifted Dortmund to fourth in the standings with 10 points from five matches, level with Chelsea and Manchester City. Villarreal are third from bottom with one point.
Juventus needed a stoppage-time winner from Jonathan David to defeat the Norwegian club Bodø/Glimt 3-2 and claim a first victory in the competition this season.
Sondre Brunstad Fet’s 87th-minute penalty looked to have secured the hosts a point after the Juventus pair Loïs Openda and Weston McKennie overturned Ole Didrik Blomberg’s first-half opener.
However, the hosts were undone in stoppage time when Nikita Haikin spilled a shot from Kenan Yildiz, who caused havoc down the left after being introduced as a half-time substitute, and David reacted quickest to fire home a late winner.
Scott McTominay spared the blushes of Rasmus Højlund as Napoli celebrated victory on the fifth anniversary of Diego Maradona’s death by beating Qarabag 2-0. The Scotland midfielder McTominay headed home a 65th-minute opener and then forced an own goal from Marko Jankovic after Manchester United loanee Højlund had a penalty saved.
