Emma Raducanu reveals what she has done to prepare for the French Open this year which is completely different to her usual routine

Emma Raducanu is coming into the French Open this year with a different mindset.

Raducanu lost to Danielle Collins in her last match on the clay in Strasbourg, with a potential scare coming up for the Brit.

After taking a medical timeout against Collins, Raducanu admitted a previous injury concern had returned.

However, Raducanu and coach Mark Petchey are now in Paris, and have been spotted on court together during a practice session.

Raducanu has enjoyed some positive results on clay this year, after cutting her season short in 2024.

This is something that the former US Open champion suggested she may have some regrets over, with Raducanu wishing she had played more on clay prior to this year.

“I think I’m happy to have put some more time in on the clay this year,” Raducanu said in her pre-tournament press conference.

“I think last year and the years before I probably would have, now looking back, preferred to have done more on the clay so that this year it didn’t necessarily feel brand new and just have more time on it, more experience banked.

“I think doing well at Wimbledon helped with that decision, but I think it wasn’t necessarily just that I skipped the clay season to get ready for the grass.

“It wasn’t just that. I had a few things off the court, just trying to manage everything and clear my head and get in a good spot for Wimbledon and the grass.

“Luckily that happened, but I don’t think what I did last year I would prefer to do going forward, and that would be my strategy.”

What is Emma Raducanu’s record on clay?

Raducanu has played eight matches during the 2025 clay court season, more than in 2023 and 2024 combined.

This has included winning three consecutive matches at one clay court tournament for the first time in her career, with Raducanu reaching the fourth round of the Italian Open.

Raducanu will now make just her second appearance at the French Open, and first since 2022.

The world number 43 will begin her campaign against the player ranked just one place above her, Xinyu Wang.

If the Briton is able to come through this opener, Raducanu’s draw could get very tough, with a potential second round match against defending champion Iga Swiatek looming.
