For many young tennis professionals, the Grand Slams offer a unique opportunity for their talent to blossom.

Wimbledon, for example, has hosted the Girls Singles Championships since 1965. Various young stars have won the title, before going on to become Grand Slam champions on the WTA Tour.

Previous winners of the title include Ashleigh Barty, Jelena Ostapenko and Iga Swiatek.

Jovic, the world number 89, demonstrated her excellent potential to make it through three rounds of qualifying, battling through three-set matches on two occasions.

However, the 17-year-old American fell short against Suzan Lamens in the main draw, losing 1-6 1-6.

The youngster has performed well at the slams in 2025, reaching the second round at both the Australian Open and French Open before losing to Elena Rybakina on both occasions. Jovic also reached the second round of Indian Wells, before being defeated by former Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini.

Jovic had performed admirably on the grass heading into Wimbledon, beating the number two seed on the way to capturing the Ilkley 125k title.

The 17-year-old has also performed brilliantly in doubles in the past, winning the 2024 Australian Open and Wimbledon Girls Doubles titles. Jovic reached her highest ITF junior ranking of world number two when

Elena Rybakina said Iva Jovic has a ‘great future’

Despite the disappointment of her first-round loss, Jovic can take great pride in her SW19 performances.

Jovic is still extremely young and has plenty of time to grow and develop into the player many expect her to be.

Elena Rybakina, who beat the youngster at the Australian Open this year, praised Jovic, saying she has a ‘great future.’

Rybakina said of Jovic: “She’s super young still and I just played the other girl (Emerson Jones) first round. They both very young and I think great future ahead of theirs [them].

“They’re still pretty young and she [Jovic] plays already really good tennis so yeah I’m looking forward to playing other matches against her.”
