Jannik Sinner just surpassed Roger Federer’s Grand Slam landmark after beating Carlos Alcaraz to win Wimbledon title

Jannik Sinner has won his first Wimbledon title, avenging the heartbreaking loss in Paris a month ago.

In the French Open final, Sinner spurned three match points against Alcaraz, before going on to lose in five sets.

However, the new Wimbledon Men’s Singles champion showed nerves of steel as he closed out the match on serve, winning 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4.

By beating Alcaraz and wiping clean any underlying tension from the French Open, the Italian four-time Grand Slam champion just surpassed Roger Federer in one key statistic.

Jannik Sinner has claimed more wins than Roger Federer after 100 Grand Slam matches

Sinner’s composure was phenomenal throughout the match, even saving two break points at 4-3 in the fourth set to prevent any kind of momentum shift, something of which the Spaniard is an expert at engineering.

After beating Alcaraz at Wimbledon, as he did in 2022, Jannik Sinner won his 81st Men’s Singles match win at Grand Slam events.

Since the turn of the century, only Rafael Nadal, at 86 wins, has claimed more wins from his first 100 men’s singles matches at Grand Slams

However, Sinner passed Roger Federer, who recorded 80 wins after his first 100 Grand Slam matches.

It may be a little early to say, but Sinner may be looking to chase more of Federer’s records after his Wimbledon triumph. His game is tailor-made for grass, as he can utilise his Novak Djokovic-like flexibility when sliding and changing directions, while launching powerful groundstrokes to both wings of his opponents.

Has Jannik Sinner overtaken Carlos Alcaraz as the one to beat on the ATP Tour?

With his victory over Alcaraz, Sinner has cemented himself as the one to beat on the ATP Tour.

The Italian has now won three of the last four Grand Slams, having emerged victorious at the 2024 US Open and 2025 Australian Open. Sinner’s results are even more striking when considering he was only a point away from holding all four Grand Slams at one time.

Heading into the US Open, he will surely be the favourite after usurping Alcaraz’s dominance across their rivalry. The Spaniard had won their last five matches before Sunday’s final.

A word for Alcaraz. While he was unable to win Wimbledon for a third consecutive year, he once again showed why he is a likely feature in every single Grand Slam final for the foreseeable future.
