John McEnroe’s instant reaction after witnessing Carlos Alcaraz beat Jannik Sinner in the French Open final

John McEnroe has rushed to deliver his immediate reaction to that ridiculous Roland Garros final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Tennis simply is a sport that cannot be described at times, and when these two supreme athletes took to the court, many expected fireworks.

However, somehow, they overdelivered, playing out one of the greatest Grand Slam finals ever.

These are, by far, the two best players in the world, and today they made that notion blatantly clear on the Parisian clay.

Naturally, it was the victor who drew the most praise from McEnroe.

John McEnroe left stunned by Carlos Alcaraz’s French Open final performance

Speaking live on TNT Sports’ US coverage, the American legend was so quick to praise the two-time French Open champion for the incredible match he played.

Coming back from two sets to love down in any scenario is impressive, but on this stage, and against this opponent, it’s miraculous.

McEnroe recognised this, stating: ‘He [Alcaraz] often does the impossible, but that really was seemingly impossible from the position he was in that fourth set, to be able to sit there and look at that screen and say, I’m the 2025 Roland Garros champion… It was an honour to witness.

‘I’ve been doing this 30 years sitting up, lucky enough to be here. That’s one of the all-timers easily. From two sets to love down. Something he’s never done before. He did it when it mattered most.’

Paul Annacone outlined the similarities between Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka ahead of the match, but it was the 22-year-old who managed to make that crucial step towards silverware that the Belarusian could not.

One of the greatest tennis matches of all time

There’s no denying that, with the nature of this final, it will go down as one of the greatest tennis matches of all time.

After all, it had everything. Length, records broken, amazingly high-quality tennis, a fifth-set championship tiebreak… Incredible.

Those who were lucky enough to be inside Philippe Chatrier will know they have just witnessed history, and those watching on from home were left truly stunned by a match that just kept ramping up and up.

If this is the future of tennis, the sport is certainly in safe hands. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are both generational talents.

Together, they might create their own legendary duopoly to rival the Big Three that came before them.
