Baltimore Ravens 34–31 Dallas Cowboys
Lamar Jackson completed a 27-yard pass to Zay Flowers and alertly called a timeout with one second left, setting up Tyler Loop’s 56-yard field goal to cap a stunning seven-second drive that gave the Baltimore Ravens (2-1) victory over the Dallas Cowboys (1-2) in Brazil. The Ravens and Cowboys put on a entertaining show in front of a crowd of 72,792 during the NFL’s third game in Brazil and first in the city of Rio de Janeiro. For a moment, it looked as though it would be the Cowboys who would win the game in regulation.
Seattle Seahawks 31-33 Washington Commanders
Marcus Mariota threw three touchdown passes, and Kain Medrano returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown to help the Washington Commanders (1-2) hand Seattle (2-1) their first loss since last November. The Seahawks had won 12 straight, including their postseason run to last season’s Super Bowl title, but Mariota was solid in place of the injured Jayden Daniels, and three crucial turnovers enabled Washington to win their home opener. Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught 10 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns for the Seahawks, and he even completed a short throw on a trick play in the final quarter.
Las Vegas Raiders 35-27 New Orleans Saints
Kirk Cousins passed for 248 yards and three touchdowns, and the Las Vegas Raiders (3-0) overcame an 11-point second-half deficit to beat the New Orleans Saints (1-2) and remain unbeaten under rookie coach Klint Kubiak. The series that led to the Raiders’ go-ahead score began when Las Vegas defensive end Malcolm Koonce sacked Tyler Shough as the Saints QB started his throwing motion. The ball went backward and was ruled a fumble that was recovered by the Raiders. A similar play was not ruled a fumble in the Saints’ season-opening loss to Detroit, a call that also went against New Orleans.
Cincinnati Bengals 27–30 Pittsburgh Steelers
Aaron Rodgers passed for 292 yards and three touchdowns to outduel Joe Burrow as the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cincinnati Bengals. Pittsburgh bounced back from a miserable performance in a loss to New England to blunt some of Cincinnati’s early momentum. Rodgers completed 19 of 34 passes, including a 47-yard catch-and-run to 6ft 7in 265lb tight end Darnell Washington that helped set up Chris Boswell’s go-ahead, 33-yard field goal with 2:18 remaining. Cincinnati had a chance late, but Burrow fumbled after being sacked by Derrick Harmon. Rookie Sebastian Joseph-Day fell on the ball. Both teams are 2-1.
New England Patriots 6–35 Jacksonville Jaguars
Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdown passes, leading the Jacksonville Jaguars to a statement victory over the visiting New England Patriots. Lawrence connected with Josh Cameron, Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington for scores, completing 19 of 29 passes for 182 yards with an interception. Meyers had seven catches for 64 yards, while Bhayshul Tuten rushed for 73 yards and a score for Jacksonville (2-1), who won their sixth straight regular-season home game. New England quarterback Drake Maye continued to struggle with turnovers. He paired two interceptions with one lost fumble to give him seven turnovers in three games, already approaching the 11 he had in 17 regular-season games last season. Maye was 14-of-25 passing for 199 yards, while Mack Hollins caught six passes for 87 yards for the Patriots (1-2).
Minnesota Vikings 23–16 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Myles Price returned a punt 86 yards for a score, Kyler Murray threw a 41-yard TD pass to Jordan Addison and the Minnesota Vikings beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was a costly game for both teams. Baker Mayfield hurt his thumb on a desperation pass late in the fourth quarter. He was screaming in pain on the ground before walking off. Two-time All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson didn’t return for Minnesota after injuring his right ankle in the first quarter. The Vikings are 3-0 for the second time in three years. The Buccaneers are 0-3 for the first time since 2014.
Los Angeles Chargers 16-24 Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen scored two touchdowns rushing and the Buffalo Bills overcame a five-turnover outing to pull out a victory over the 0-3 Los Angeles Chargers. Allen’s second score, a one-yard plunge with 7:35 left, gave Buffalo their first lead. The Bills then sealed the win on James Cook’s three-yard run four minutes later, after Buffalo’s defense forced Justin Herbert’s incompletion on fourth down at the Chargers 45. Buffalo improved to 3-0 despite Allen throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble. Cook and tight end Dalton Kincaid also lost fumbles.
Kansas City Chiefs 24–10 Miami Dolphins
Kenneth Walker III had a touchdown catch and rushed for a score, Patrick Mahomes threw for 246 yards and two TDs, and the Kansas City Chiefs (3-0) beat the Miami Dolphins. The Chiefs entered averaging more than 450 yards and 32 points but struggled to pull away from the 0-3 Dolphins. Miami were missing arguably their best player for much of the game after Pro Bowler De’Von Achane left with a knee injury on the opening drive. Mahomes completed 20 of 24 passes with a five-yard touchdown to Walker but needed an 11-yard TD pass to Travis Kelce to put the game out of reach.
Arizona Cardinals 30–36 San Francisco 49ers
Brock Purdy threw four touchdown passes with the first coming on a trick play and the injury-depleted San Francisco 49ers held on for victory over the Arizona Cardinals. San Francisco lost receiver Mike Evans to a rib injury in the first half and left tackle Trent Williams to a stinger in the second half but still managed to hold on to get off to a 3-0 start for the third time in the last four seasons. The game started off well for the Niners before the injuries started mounting and they found themselves in a tight game. Arizona have lost 22 of their last 26 games in the division.
New York Jets 24–31 Detroit Lions
Jahmyr Gibbs had a go-ahead 11-yard reception with 2:25 left for his third touchdown of the game and the Detroit Lions (2-1) held on to beat the New York Jets (1-2). The dynamic running back had 20 carries for 99 yards with 17- and 1-yard touchdown runs along with seven receptions for 65 yards and a score. With a chance to tie the game or perhaps go for the win, the Jets were on the Detroit 28. But Smith fumbled after blitzing safety Chuck Clark sacked him, with Garrett Wilson on the sideline after he was hit hard on the previous play.
Carolina Panthers 18–21 Cleveland Browns
Deshaun Watson threw two touchdown passes to Harold Fannin Jr, including a 14-yard strike with 1:48 remaining, and the Cleveland Browns (2-1) rallied for victory over the Carolina Panthers (1-2). The Panthers went in front 18-13 with 4:25 remaining when John Metchie III hauled in an eight-yard touchdown pass from Bryce Young. But the Browns went 65 yards in eight plays for their second straight comeback win. Watson was 10 of 21 for 67 yards during the first three quarters but was 6 of 9 for 77 yards over the final 15 minutes. He was cheered by fans after he returned to the field following a hard hit.
Tennessee Titans 7-12 New York Giants
Relying on running the ball in their first game without quarterback Jaxson Dart, the New York Giants beat the Tennessee Titans but lost their most important defensive player, Brian Burns, to a knee injury. Burns went down grabbing at his right knee midway through the fourth quarter and had to be helped off the field. If it is significant like Dart’s injury, which has him out for at least the remainder of the regular season, it is another blow to the Giants (2-1) after John Harbaugh’s tenure as coach got off to a promising start. The Titans fell to 0-3.
Houston Texans 17–19 Indianapolis Colts
Spencer Shrader kicked four field goals, including a 53-yarder with 16 seconds remaining, to lead the Indianapolis Colts to victory. Shrader matched his career best of 58 yards to help the Colts (1-2) snap a five-game losing streak against their AFC South rivals. Daniel Jones was 24-of-36 passing for 235 yards, one touchdown, one interception and two lost fumbles for the Colts. Keenan Allen caught a touchdown pass and Indianapolis halted a nine-game overall skid dating back to last season. Will Anderson Jr recorded 2.5 sacks, forced one fumble and recovered another for the Texans (0-3), who didn’t commit a turnover while forcing three Indianapolis miscues.
