Nick Kyrgios offers immediate line call solution for the remainder of Wimbledon after two controversies

Nick Kyrgios was definitive in his stance on Wimbledon’s electronic line calling system.

The Australian has been on talkSPORT covering the entirety of the grass court Grand Slam.

There have been several talking points throughout the Wimbledon Championships that have divided opinion, such as the absence of line judges due to electronic line calling.

Nick Kyrgios is known for not being afraid to speak his mind and he has come up with a bold suggestion for what Wimbledon should do for the remainder of the tournament.

Nick Kyrgios thinks line judges should be reinstated for the rest of Wimbledon 2025

For the first time in Wimbledon’s long history, electronic line calling has been introduced.

It has largely been successful, but there was one moment during Sonay Kartal’s last 16 match with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

In Sunday’s match the Russian was not awarded a point after the electronic system did not pick Kartal hitting backhand out.

The umpire asked for the point to be replayed which Kartal won and broke serve before closing out the first set.

Other players have called out the new technology and Kyrgios has now called on Wimbledon to do something unprecedented to prevent any problems with the new software this week.

“Please don’t speak it into existence. I really hope not. This has been two days now where there’s been malfunctions and things are happening,” Kyrgios said.

“I think arguably now we should just probably turn it off completely and maybe just get some line umpires for the rest of the tournament. I don’t know if that’s possible.

“But I really hope not, I really hope it doesn’t affect these high-level athletes and the level of tennis we’ve been seeing. It would be really unfortunate to see if something like that determines a big point or determines a set, and really does ruin a match.”

Nick Kyrgios thinks Wimbledon ‘has work to do’ regarding their electronic line calling system for 2026

The likes of Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu have criticised Wimbledon’s new electronic line calling system.

The grass court major followed the rest of the tour by removing line judges in favour of the new technology.

Given the issues this year, it remains to be seen if Wimbledon will decide to continue with the new software in 2026. Either way, Kyrgios thinks they have a big decision to make.

“I think Wimbledon has work to do. Next year whether or not they decide to keep going forward with it or not,” he added.

“I’m not sure what’s going on with the technology, but I really wouldn’t like to see it affect a match, because then it would really bring up some issues for sure.”
