Squash finals Highlights, Asian Games 2026: Anahat Singh gets thrashed in gold medal match; picks up India’s 14th silver

She was no match. The Malaysian was just too good. With this win she goes to the Olympic games in 2028. 11-4, 11-4 and 11-7 is the scoreline and she has taken just 23 minutes to dispatch Anahat Singh. One can’t blame Anahat and Abhay too much, frankly. Their opponents were just too good.

Anahat Singh can’t afford to lose this one! She has been no match so far. The Malaysian won the first two games in just 15 minutes. That tells you how good she is. Guess what? She is already leading 4-0 in the third game. Surely, it’s all over bar the shouting for the Indian.

Sivasangari Subramaniam is just too. One wonders how Anahat can come back into this contest. She is trailing 9-4 at present and the Malaysian is all over her. Anahat concedes second game 11-4. Sivasangari is picking up points like a magician.

Sivasangari Subramaniam has run to a 4-0 lead in the second game, just like that. Her game is far superior which should not come as a surprise. Not for nothing is she the world’s number five. She took the first game in just 8 minutes. The second one might be even quicker. Anahat has no answers.

Sivasangari Subramaniam, just like that, snatches the lead from the Indian. She has now opened up a four-point lead at 7-. Things are not looking good for Anahat in the first game. It’s 9-4 now. Abhay Singh loses the first game 11-9. It was closely fought but the Malaysian got points at the right time. Abhay was impressive at times but not consistent. 21 minutes of high-octane action. The second game has got underway and Ng Eain Yow has got into an early lead already. Things are not looking good for the Indian.

Ng Eain Yow is leading 5-3 in the first game. Just like that the Malaysian has picked up two points. Before that there was nothing to choose from. All of a sudden, the intensity levels have gone up with Ng Eain Yow dictating terms. Guess what? He picks up another point. Abhay appears to be struggling at present.

Here we go. Abhay gets the first point. Ng Eain Yow is quick to make it 1-1. Both players appear to be taking it easy which is understandable. They want to settle down first. Long rallies are the order so far.

The Malaysian’s current ranking in the world is 18th. Abhay is 26th on the other hand. Ng Eain Yow is the reigning champions, it may be noted. He won the 2023 Asian Games gold medal in China. A cracker of a game in the offing for sure.

The final will start at 12:30 pm IST as per the official website. Both Indian players are certain to get a silver but frankly, fans want them to look at nothing but gold. India desperately need gold to go up the medal tally. If truth be told, things have not been exactly great this edition. As of now, it’s four gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze.
