Taylor Fritz admits that he’d love to be a tennis coach when he retires but one thing might stop him

Taylor Fritz may have just won his ninth career title on the ATP Tour, but already the American is looking ahead to his retirement.

That’s not to suggest that he’s willing his playing days away, but rather preparing for life after tennis.

That being said, it seems like his involvement within the sport has made him unable to truly leave it behind, as he has detailed plans to hopefully coach one day.

However, whilst he would enjoy that role, and believes that he’d be a success were he to try it, there’s one thing that could stop him from pursuing that goal.

Taylor Fritz explains what would stop him from coaching

Speaking to the Tennis Insider podcast, the 27-year-old was open and honest throughout as he delved into his career thus far.

Fritz spoke about the biggest issue he faced as a youngster, as well as his views on on-court coaching.

And it was the latter subject that led him to speak about the tactics within tennis, seeing himself as someone who loves to outfox his opponent both physically and mentally.

The natural progression was to ask if he had considered coaching once his career was done, but he seemed sheepish at first. Fritz began: ‘So, I definitely don’t want to do all the travelling.

‘It’s like, I think I probably will retire for a bit, but at the same time, I think it would be a waste if I don’t coach.

‘I think I would be… I think I would be very good at it. And I think that, yeah, I think that I would want to coach. It’s just the travelling.’

Alexander Zverev sends hilarious message to Taylor Fritz after BOSS Open final

Although this interview came out before the BOSS Open final, it’s worth touching on Fritz’s latest title, which he earned yesterday.

Storming to that stage in Stuttgart without dropping a set, he was faced with the world number three Alexander Zverev, a completely new challenge compared to those he had defeated thus far.

However, the 2024 US Open finalist held his nerve and remained as clinical as ever, not facing a single break point as he cruised to a comfortable victory.

It was the post-match comments from Zverev that really caught the attention though, with the German delivering a hilariously brutal speech.

He stated: ‘Taylor, I’m f———g tired of you. I don’t wanna see you again over the next two to three years.

‘Please stay away from me. Don’t come to Germany anymore.’

He then went on to praise Fritz on a fine week, as the two laughed.
